Have you ever wondered if your dog's food can change the world? Have you ever wondered if it can be tasty, nutritious, balanced, and at the same time, sustainable? Have you ever thought about the true cost of the animal proteins with which you feed your dog every day? Your super dog has, and we listened to him. Thus, Truffle was born, the ultra-premium pet food super tasty, super digestible, an ally of the environment.
Alternative Protein is the Key
Change begins with diet. And this is even more true for animal food, which currently occupies 80% of cultivable land. Producing proteins, moreover, is truly wasteful and in the vast majority of cases consumes more resources than it offers. For every kilo of beef, almost ten kilos of fodder are needed, not to mention the thousands of liters of water consumed and the CO2 emissions, for which farms are responsible, about 20% of the total worldwide.
For Truffle's recipe, we decided to use alternative proteins from insects.
Hermetia, a Conscious Choice
The Truffle formula uses proteins from the larvae of Hermetia Illucens, the black soldier fly. Extensive research on alternative proteins convinced us that this was the most suitable choice.
The larvae, dried and ground into flour, contain up to 60% high-quality proteins that are easily digestible and naturally endowed with a fat content that approaches 35% of the total, extremely rich in Omega 3 and Omega 6.
Hermetia is a healthy and incredibly easy-to-digest food, which provides the right energy to the dog, reducing the need to add external fats to the meal.
Hermetia larvae are grown in dedicated farms, monitored daily by veterinarians who certify the entire life cycle of the insect, from nutrition checks to processing processes. From a safety perspective, Hermetia follows the same quality standards as animal protein farms.
They consume little food and water
A 1kg steak can require up to 13 kg of fodder and over 15,000 liters of water. With Hermetia, however, to produce the same amount of proteins, little more than 1 kg of feed and less than 100 liters of water are needed.
They occupy little space
Intensive farms are disliked by everyone. Yet they exist and occupy a lot of space. For every kg of beef, 200 square meters of cultivable land are needed, 50 for pigs, and 45 for chickens. Insects, on the other hand, require just over 15 square meters, the equivalent of a living room.
They reduce greenhouse gas emissions
It is estimated that globally, 20% of greenhouse gas emissions are due to intensive farming and its supply chain. To produce a quintal of meat, about 15 tons of gas are emitted, 80 times more than those from a Hermetia farm.
They don’t need antibiotics or hormones
Hermetia larvae grow in protected environments, in a completely natural way, without the need for any pharmacological help.
They are good, indeed very good
The most accurate nutritional studies show that insect proteins are qualitatively superior to animal ones. They are hypoallergenic, highly assimilable, rich in fatty acids, Omega 3 and Omega 6, fibers, micronutrients, and minerals such as iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, and zinc.
